Meriel's
Meriel's (also historically known as Syndra's) is the primary tavern and beerhouse located in the center of the Eldrim village of Sylrantheas on Earth (Mar). Owned and operated by the pragmatic bladedancer and Conflagration mage Meriel, it serves as a central gathering place for the village's residents.
Geography and Environment
The original tavern in Sylrantheas was a cozy establishment made of beautifully paneled wood, featuring a long wooden bar forming a straight line down one end and booths situated around the edges. The clean floors smelled of old beer and whiskey. Using her Conflagration magic for brewing, Meriel famously served a signature brown, nutty, and malty beer that was served cold.
The tavern was originally owned by Meriel's sister, Syndra, who died of cancer years prior. Despite this, some older elves like Orym still affectionately refer to the establishment as "Syndra's" in her memory. Sometime prior to the Ascension, the tavern was updated to include televisions—an unusual inclusion of technology for the traditional Eldrim.
Following the destruction of Sylrantheas by the Cothellon, the tavern was completely rebuilt in the new, integrated settlement of Pano Sylrantheas. The updated design featured a blend of traditional wood and a new wall made entirely of glass, allowing sunlight and fresh forest air to blow into the space.
Key Events
The Remnant Threat
After the Remnant attack that severely injured Fenian, Arra and Imra retreat to Meriel's to drink wine and beer and discuss the looming threat. Their conversation is interrupted when Elanil bursts through the tavern doors in a whirl of leaves and wind, announcing that their mother, Melenora, and grandmother, Myriani, have been captured by the Remnant and taken to the outpost of Presenub.
Orym's Confession
Following the devastating Typhoon Velma, Orym visits the tavern using an Earring of Mist to disguise his appearance. He meets with his old friend Kharis there, dropping his illusion to reveal his true identity. In the booth of the tavern, Orym warns Kharis about the impending Ascension and confesses his secret role as the Scientist General of the Cothellon.
A Toast to Family
After the deactivation of Prime magic and the defeat of the Twins, the survivors gather at the newly rebuilt Meriel's in Pano Sylrantheas. Meriel—who has since risen to the position of Council Leader—personally serves the group beers. Sitting together in the sunlit booth, Trey (Tarathiel), Arra (Alleria), Rylan, Elanil, Phoenix, and Imra raise their glasses to toast to their survival and the unexpected, interconnected family they have forged.
