The Prime Forest
The Prime Forest is a massive, incredibly powerful woodland of fourteen Prime Trees located in the Muir Woods of Earth (Mar). Originally a simple collection of ordinary trees known as the Grove of Fourteen, it was transformed through ultimate sacrifice into the first full set of new Prime Trees the world had seen in millennia. It serves as a beacon of magic and prosperity for the newly integrated human and elven settlement of Pano Sylrantheas.
Geography and Environment
The Prime Forest is breathtaking in its scale. The fourteen Trees—representing the fourteen types of primewood—tower a thousand feet or more above the rest of the ancient redwood forest that surrounds them. The trees are monstrously huge, majestic, and exude a palpable feeling of life, happiness, and raw power.
During its time as a floating battlefield, the Forest consisted not only of the massive Trees, but also a thick layer of the forest floor—soil, underbrush, and rocks—that was suspended thousands of feet in the air by darkprime magic.
Key Events
The Sacrifice
Following the destruction of the world's remaining Prime Trees during the aborted Soulsundering ritual, magic on Earth was nearly extinct. Knowing that they needed a massive infusion of power to combat the Cothellon's sky city device (Fennas Elenathon), fourteen volunteers—including several elven Mentors, humans from the Splinter, and Melenora—willingly sacrificed their lives before the ordinary trees in Nuala's grove. As their blood soaked into the roots, the ground shook violently and the trees rapidly expanded, pushing everything aside as they transformed into fourteen towering Prime Trees.
The Ascension of the Forest
Immediately after the Prime Forest was born, the young underkid Rylan utilized the Book of Amplification and an immense supply of darkprime maple to lift the entire Forest into the sky. Ripping the roots and a thick layer of soil right out of the earth, Rylan elevated the Forest thousands of feet into the air until it hovered level with the conjoined sky cities and their world-ending Device.
The Battle of the Floating Forest
As the elves prepared to use the new Prime Forest to initiate a soulsundering ritual against the Cothellon, the Cothellon army launched a desperate counterattack. Hundreds of gates spawned around the edges of the floating Forest, disgorging heavily armed Cothellon soldiers. A massive battle erupted across the floating soil, with Eldrim leafrunners and armed underkids from the Shock Crew clashing with the soldiers. During the chaos, Trey and Arra engaged in a brutal fight against the mindmaster Quynn, utilizing a combination of their Prime Mage powers to hurl flat forcefields and lightning-infused shockarrows to defeat him.
The Fall of the Forest
While Rylan struggled to keep the massive Forest aloft, he was suddenly shot in the chest by a Cothellon bullet. As he collapsed and lost his grip on the magic, the entire Prime Forest began to plummet back toward the earth. The Cothellon defector Orym quickly grabbed the Book of Amplification and channeled his own fallfoiling magic to slow the Forest's descent. Although it was a rough landing that sent dust and leaves flying everywhere, Orym successfully guided the Forest back to the ground without fatal impact. Trey subsequently used soulsoothing magic to heal Rylan's bullet wound.
The Foundation of Pano Sylrantheas
Following the ultimate defeat of the Cothellon and the deactivation of the sky cities, the surviving humans of the Splinter and the Eldrim of Sylrantheas united to build a new, integrated village. Built in the shadow of the fourteen Prime Trees, the new settlement of Pano Sylrantheas thrives under the protective boughs of the Prime Forest.
