Fennas Elenathon
Fennas Elenathon (also known as the Gateway to the Stars or Receiver Site Alpha) is a colossal, highly advanced technological device constructed by the Cothellon on Earth (Mar). Designed by the Scientist General Orym, its primary purpose is to channel energy from the planet's core to create a massive planetary gate, capable of transporting the entire world across the universe.
It serves as the focal point for the apocalyptic event known as the Conjunction at the climax of the first season of The Metalwood Saga.
Geography and Environment
Fennas Elenathon is hidden deep within the overgrown Muir Woods, located north of the ruins of Old San Francisco. For centuries, the facility was completely obscured from the outside world by an immense, invisible forcefield maintained by forcefinders.
The receiver site itself sits within a vast earthen pit. Prior to its partial destruction, the facility resembled a small, sterile metal city, arranged in neat rows of corrugated silver buildings and light posts.
At the center of the pit lies the primary device: a gigantic, bottomless hole bored directly into the earth, surrounded by four massive metal claws that jut high into the air. These claws are designed to receive and focus the immense power drawn from the planet's core.
Key Events
The Prototype
Hundreds of years prior to the completion of the main device, the Cothellon built a smaller prototype of Fennas Elenathon hidden in the Below of New San Francisco. This precursor machine was used to continuously gate clean water from the Earth's surface to the floating city above, proving that the gate technology was viable. It eventually broke down after two hundred and seventy years, forcing the Planners to rely on brutal transmuter magic to fulfill their water quotas.
Discovery
The main facility remained completely undetected by the Eldrim of Sylrantheas until Elanil accidentally stumbled upon it. While recklessly using her leafrunning magic, she ran out of primewood and fell directly through the facility's cloaking forcefield, discovering the metal buildings and the terrifying central claw device before narrowly escaping the Cothellon guards.
Arra's Awakening
During the Cothellon invasion, Lorelei cornered Arra, Elanil, and the young underkid Rylan within the receiver site. When Lorelei fired her gun at Arra, Elanil sacrificed herself, jumping in front of the bullet. The trauma of witnessing her sister's murder shattered the mental block in Arra's mind, instantly awakening her as a fully realized Prime Mage.
Unleashing a devastating, untamed shockwave of leafrunning magic, Arra completely leveled the facility. The blast pulverized the metal buildings, shattered the landscape, and instantly killed hundreds of Cothellon soldiers. Crucially, however, her wrath only destroyed the outbuildings and the personnel; the massive central claw device survived the destruction completely intact, leaving the core machine fully functional.
The Conjunction
With the device still operational, Lorelei initiated the Conjunction. The seven floating sky cities converged in the sky directly over Fennas Elenathon, interlocking like a massive puzzle to form the upper half of the Gateway to the Stars. However, Orym realized a fatal flaw in his design: drawing the necessary power from Earth's core would destabilize the planet, imploding it into a black hole and killing everyone.
Despite his warnings, Lorelei proceeded with the Conjunction, intending to sacrifice the Earth to escape the looming threat of the Twins.
The Planetary Gate
To save the planet from being hollowed out by Fennas Elenathon, Trey (Tarathiel), Arra, and the mindmaster Quynn stormed Gate Control. Joining hands to form a unified soulcircle, the three mages acted as the device's Operators. Utilizing the Tree Ring Staff and the Book of Amplification, Trey successfully severed the machine's connection to the Earth's core.
Instead of using the planet's magma, Trey substituted the combined, amplified Prime magic of their united souls to power the claws. Against all odds, the device worked, opening a swirling, planetary-sized gate that successfully transported Earth to the Persephone solar system, placing it in orbit near Valaralda.
