In the floating city of Newfris, the Transamerica Pyramid is a landmark of the Upper Heights, with "its iconic angled shape large in her vision, pointed into the sky like the finger of a god". During a high-stakes aerial battle, the building is tragically caught in the crossfire of Phoenix's uncontrolled magic: "They slammed through the building, concrete and glass and steel falling into shreds as they burst through the outer wall. The firebubble pummeled into everything, reducing desks and chairs and interior walls to instant rubble". The destruction concludes when "the top of the building in its distinct pyramid shape tilted, breaking slowly off the square base, falling slowly, then faster, pitching downward toward the ground".
On the surface of Earth, the ruins of the original structure still stand in Old San Francisco as "crumbling ruins... half its original height now, after hundreds of years of weather and looters". This version of the pyramid is overgrown and neglected: "Arra picked her way through the overgrowth at the base of the crumbled ruins on Telegraph Hill, hoping to spot movement down below". For the Eldrim, the ruin serves as a strategic vantage point to observe the Remnant settlements in the Presidio and the surrounding wasteland.
