Presidio
The Presidio (known as Presenub by the Remnant) is an overgrown, forested region in the ruins of Old San Francisco on Earth (Mar). Located just south of the Golden Gate Bridge, it served as a secretive and highly strategic Remnant outpost prior to its complete destruction.
Geography and Environment
Originally a beautiful forest as thick as a jungle, the Presidio was completely overrun by nature in the centuries following the Sundering. Ancient structures, such as a remarkably intact white adobe building with a red angled roof, were hidden beneath the dense canopy of trees, bushes, ferns, and flowers.
When the Remnant established the outpost of Presenub, they built a small city seamlessly integrated into the foliage. Unlike other squalid Remnant settlements such as Gulthurub, Presenub was noted by the Eldrim for being unusually clean and newly constructed. However, the area was ultimately reduced to a trampled, smoking ruin of plowed-up earth and broken trees following a massive battle, leaving the landscape permanently scarred.
Key Events
The Secret Outpost
The Remnant established Presenub in secret, using it to hold the captured Eldrim elders Melenora and Myriani. The young leafrunner Elanil inadvertently discovered the hidden outpost, allowing the Hunter Fenian to deduce that the Remnant were planning a coordinated pincer attack on the elven village of Sylrantheas, striking from both Gulthurub in the north and Presenub in the south.
The Failed Peace
Under the manipulation of Cariel (operating as the Remnant god Magona / Segena), Remnant forces heavily massed at Presenub. This included thousands of warriors and a fleet of massive war machines known as Destroyers, brought by the Lusvunub Company. Hoping to avert a massacre, the newly proclaimed Warlord Zel attempted to broker a peace with Silanar and the elves inside the ancient white adobe building at the center of the outpost. The meeting devolved into chaos when a frightened Melenora was spotted and attempted to flee, triggering a massive firefight.
The Battle of Presenub
A brutal, chaotic battle erupted throughout the Presidio forest. The Remnant initially ambushed the Eldrim by shooting from perfectly concealed vantage points high up in the trees. The conflict escalated disastrously when Segena bypassed Zel and ordered the Lusvunub Destroyers to advance. The massive metal war machines rampaged through Presenub, mercilessly chewing through the ancient trees, adobe buildings, tents, and combatants alike. The heavy vehicles completely leveled the once-beautiful jungle before turning north to cross the Golden Gate Bridge toward Sylrantheas.
