The Golden Gate Bridge is described as a "strategic crossing" and an iconic landmark that survived for hundreds of years after the Sundering, only to be reduced to "the last two shards... thrusting upwards from the water as if pointing at the stars". Originally, it was a massive orange structure that served as the gateway between the ruins of San Francisco and the redwood forests of Marin County. Before its final collapse, the bridge became a focal point of a desperate conflict where a caravan of "metal and death," consisting of Remnant Destroyers and Cothellon tanks, attempted to cross it to reach and destroy the elven village of Sylrantheas.
The bridge's destruction was an act of immense magical force by Phoenix, who used her burgeoning forcefinder power to intervene. The prose depicts the cataclysm: "The deck of it broke into pieces, great cables swaying above as the entire bridge shifted, swayed, shattering as Phoenix’s energy ripped it apart. The Destroyers didn’t stand a chance: they careened off into thin air, falling into the bay with nothing but a splash to mark their passing". Following the battle, it remained a "tomb," a shattered relic of the old world with only "two shards of the Golden Gate Bridge... standing out of the water, resolute".
