The Starmist Solar System is the distant, ancestral origin point for elves, humans, rylak, and dragons, located in "Sector 421". Its primary world, Starmist Prime, was a planet of unmatched beauty and highly advanced technology, described as the "home of countless wonders beyond your wildest dreams". Allain’s mistweaving illusion reveals a glimpse of this ancient paradise: "Huge rock formations towered overhead, trees and flowers dotting the landscape. Waterfalls cascaded down from up on high to feed placid lakes... Cities stretched out in the distance, graceful parapets giving way to buildings and bridges and then fields and streams," where the different races lived in harmony and "dragons circled in the sky".
Tragically, the system was attacked eons ago by a warlike alien race called the Xelle. Knowing they could not defeat these marauders, the leaders of Starmist Prime enacted a desperate plan to save their species. They sent generation ships to distant Seed Planets—including Earth, Valaralda, and Eryn—and cast their most powerful and dangerous technological devices, such as Xyclami (Guruthos), into the universe to keep them out of enemy hands. Starmist Prime was ultimately destroyed, making Eryn its spiritual successor, or "Starmist reborn," at the end of the series.
