Gondor
Gondor is a high-tech, underground human survival city located on Earth (Mar). Built by the secretive faction known as the True People, it was designed as a refuge to save a remnant of humanity from the apocalyptic Sundering orchestrated by the Eldrim. The city was named by its founder, John (who is secretly the author J.R.R. Tolkien), after the fictional city in his books, though the real Gondor is entirely subterranean.
Geography and Environment
Hidden deep beneath the surface near the human settlement of Lusvunub, Gondor stretches out into vast, expansive catacombs. The city is strung with glittering lights and features highly advanced technology that far surpasses anything the elves or the Cothellon possess. Vehicles zip everywhere along the silver ribbons of the Monorail Transport System, ferrying the humans who successfully migrated into the depths.
To protect itself from magical detection and the ongoing conflicts above, Gondor is shielded by a massive, invisible forcefield. The subterranean city is completely self-contained but remains accessible to the surface via colossal mechanical doors that open the ground to the sky, allowing large vehicles to deploy when necessary.
Key Events
The Sundering and Isolation
Centuries ago, after discovering the existence of elves and learning of the impending, catastrophic magic of the Sundering, John formed the True People. Realizing that humans could not fight magic directly, the faction built Gondor and other underground sites to wait out the death of the planet's surface population in secret. For over three hundred years, the city remained entirely undetected by both the Eldrim and the Cothellon, allowing its inhabitants to research advanced technology, develop new metal alloys, and prepare for the day they could safely emerge.
The Final Migration
As the Cothellon accelerated their plans for the Ascension and the Eldrim prepared to enact the Sundering, a massive, climate change-induced storm named Typhoon Velma ravaged the planet. Realizing that the devastating Category Five storm would force both elven factions to move their apocalyptic timetables up, John and his aide Warren rushed to finalize the migration of the remaining True People operatives into Gondor before the city was fully ready. Knowing that millions of humans would die either to the storm or the elves, John sounded the alarm to immediately bring everyone underground.
He watched as the final trains arrived, carrying carefully selected scientists, engineers, construction workers, and other essential personnel chosen to ensure humanity's survival. Thanks to a bug planted in Lorelei's office, John knew the Cothellon were announcing the Ascension in mere hours, while the Eldrim's World Council was arriving to authorize the Sundering. Facing the end of the world, John and Warren sealed the subterranean city the following morning, resigning themselves to remaining underground for as long as necessary to weather the destruction of mankind.
The Deployment of the Destroyers
During the final battle against the immensely powerful Orym, who had unlocked the world-altering capabilities of Xyclami (Guruthos), Gondor finally revealed itself to the outside world. Coordinated by John and authorized by the city's defense chief, Chief Jefferson, Gondor's massive underground doors rumbled open.
Dill watched in awe from his flying undercar as the city deployed its ultimate weapons: the Destroyers. These massive, heavily armed war machines—equipped with energy weapons, saws, and cannons—floated up out of Gondor, passing through the city's invisible shield to engage Orym in a desperate bid to save the planet.
