Located in Old San Francisco before the devastating typhoon, the American Cancer Society was housed in Stevenson Place, a "tall building, gray like all the others, imposing as it reached into the San Francisco skyline". Specifically, the treatment center was "fifteen floors up, but the clogged streets were easily visible from way up there". It was a mundane medical facility, "a cancer treatment center, not a hospital," which meant it was ill-equipped to treat acute trauma like lightning strikes.
The facility is notable as the workplace of the elven soulsoother Keya, who "studied for years to be there" and took on a "ton of student debt" because her healing magic was incapable of curing cancer. During the evacuation of the building amidst the World Storm, the Society became the site of Jessica's first magical awakening. Keya sensed the "darkprime magic" there, wondering if the dark-haired woman with "haunted blue eyes" or her small boy had caused it.
