Thylmanas is a freezing, ruined city in northern Esara on Valaralda, widely considered to be "the seat of elven civilization" and the place "where we all began". Situated steeply in the Thyl Mountains where "it’s winter for long stretches of the year," the once-vast metropolis now consists of "crumbling ruins lay as far as Arra could see. Bits of walls, half-formed statues, and the shattered remains of pillars filled the land, all covered in a blanket of brilliant white snow".
The city peaked shortly after the Great Awakening and was the birthplace of the Eglaria religion. However, thousands of years later, Thylmanas attempted to leave the Esaran Union to protect its "legendary" mines and religious sites, sparking the bloody War of Secession. During this war, the great Thylmanas Library—"considered one of the wonders of the world"—burned to the ground, and the city eventually faded into the desolate ruin explored by Trey, Arra, and Lashel twenty thousand years later.
