Tanomar
Tanomar is a large, tropical island located 104 miles due south-southeast of Ilyrion in the Airon Sea on the planet Valaralda. Known historically for its discovery of sugarcane, it plays a critical role in the modern era as a secretive breeding ground for Cariel's forces, the arrival point for the resurrected Prime Mages, and the location of a hidden dimensional gate.
Geography and Environment
Unlike the temperate forests of northern Esara, Tanomar is a lush, vibrant tropical island. It is characterized by thick jungles and sandy beaches bordering the ocean.
Key environmental features include:
- The Prime Palms: The island is home to a unique variation of Prime Trees that resemble massive palm trees. While they do not visually match the traditional Fourteen Trees found on Earth or elsewhere, these Palm Trees are genuine Prime Trees that impart lightprime magic, specifically soulsoothing.
- The Turquoise Lake: Hidden deep within the island's jungle is a breathtaking clearing that features a sparkling, still turquoise lake. The lake is fed by a high waterfall cascading down a series of rocky cliffs. The shore of this lake is composed of tiny, clear, glass-like rocks in various colors, such as gray, brown, orange, and blue.
Key Events
The Sugarcane Discovery
Thousands of years ago, elven explorers discovered natural sugarcane growing on Tanomar. The harvesting and worldwide shipping of this crop started a culinary revolution on Valaralda, fundamentally changing how the elves baked and consumed sweet foods.
Cariel's Rylak Prison
For millennia, the dark mage Cariel used Tanomar as a secretive staging ground and prison. After pulling the souls of the rylak from Ambarhal, she trapped them on the island, breeding them over thousands of years to build her vicious army. Although the rylak eventually lost their memories of their true home planet of Eryn, they kept their stories alive while stranded on the island.
The Return of the Prime Mages
Following the destruction of Ilyrion by the Twins, Rylan, Elanil, and Imra fled across the Airon Sea in a magic-propelled leafboat. They crash-landed on the beach of Tanomar, where they witnessed a miraculous event: the island's Prime Palms burst into flames, and hundreds of ancient, deceased Prime Mages emerged from the fire. Because the Twins had been released, Ambarhal could no longer hold its souls, allowing legendary mages like Phoenix, Alinar, Hycis, and Vestele to return to the physical world.
The Gate to the Control Center
During the climax of the conflict against Orym (the Imprisoner), Orym revealed to his allies that a hidden gate on Tanomar led directly to the Control Center—a vital hub for the planetary network. A team consisting of Dill, Allain, Erodar, and Lorelei traveled to the island to locate the gate and attempt to stop Orym's apocalyptic plans.
