Gatesender

Gatesending is the seventh, Primal Aspect of darkprime magic, fueled by dark willow or cypress. It allows the mage to create swirling orange-white portals of light for instantaneous travel across vast distances, even traversing across solar systems to other planets. As the rarest and arguably most powerful darkprime magic, it is theoretically accessible to any mage, but in practice, almost no one unlocks it unless they are specifically born with the Talent. Using this magic carries a perilous side effect known as gatesickness or soulblinding, which can violently strip away a person's memories—or, unpredictably, restore them. However, skilled mages can bypass this danger by wrapping themselves in a "nowhere gate" before passing through the primary portal, effectively insulating their minds from the journey. Prominent gatesenders in the series include the Remnant Warlord Zel and the ancient Prime Mage Magona. Orym extensively uses the nowhere gate trick to safely traverse the worlds. Additionally, the underkid Alluin (Glint) discovers his rare gatesending ability in the Below, utilizing it to save the city's water supply and escape his imprisonment.
