Ramul
Ramul is an elven artificer and devout Believer based in the city of Ilyrion. Associated with the Department of Magical Research, he is the craftsman responsible for reverse-engineering the legendary Tree Ring Staff and forging the Shocksword for Trey (Tarathiel).
Appearance and Workspace
Ramul works out of a small workshop located on one end of Ilyrion University. The space is packed to the brim with oddities, books, tools, and scattered parts, including half-assembled machines and open manuscripts filled with his remarkably neat handwriting.
When working, Ramul wears a jeweler's loupe over one eye and utilizes a strange tool that resembles a cross between a screwdriver and a pair of pliers. Physically, he is described as being "grim-faced" and having "terrible teeth" which are visible when he gives a crooked smile.
Beliefs
Ramul is a devout Believer—a member of the religious sect on Valaralda that insists the Twins are their true masters. He possesses a deep, fearful reverence for the gods. When Trey first activates the shocksword and experiences an intoxicating rush of darkprime magic, Ramul warns him that the dark Twin, Nelenor, is calling to him through the wood. Fearful of Nelenor's cruel mastery, Ramul immediately regrets his decision to forge the weapon.
Creation of the Shocksword
When Trey first met Ramul, the artificer was deeply engrossed in studying magical artifacts, desperately trying to rediscover the lost ancient art of how they were made. Upon hearing that Trey possessed the Tree Ring Staff—an artifact granting limitless magical Material—Ramul "salivated" at the chance to study it, believing it held the secrets he had been searching for.
Ramul successfully unlocked the technical secrets buried within the wood of the Staff. At Trey's request, he used this knowledge to forge a rapier-thin sword, giving its dark elm handle the same inexhaustible mechanism as the Staff. During the crafting process, Ramul carved a mysterious glyph—a "T" with a small circle at the bottom—into the handle. When Trey asks about the symbol, Ramul flatly lies, claiming it is merely "a decoration".
Before letting Trey test the weapon, Ramul strongly warns him that the creation and possession of darkprime wood is strictly illegal on the continent of Esara, and that he could be thrown in jail if caught with it. Despite his reservations, Ramul watches Trey test the sword from the wall of his workshop, and even claps when Arra easily disarms Trey in a sparring match.
