The Jewel of the South is a poetic and historical nickname for the great Valaraldan capital city of Ilyrion. It is prominently referenced in the ancient text Dawn of an Empire, which invites its readers to "Look unto Ilyrion, that shining jewel of the south. Look unto it with joy—for we have Awakened". During her bout of severe gatesickness, a maddened Lorelei begs Allain to "Take me to the Jewel of the South".
