The Iteranu River is the great waterway that flows through the Thesserin Desert on Valaralda, serving as "the only source of life in the desolate desert". The river runs north and south, bisecting the sprawling mudbrick city of Nekhrumet, where "eucalyptus and acacia trees lining the Iteranu River as it glittered in the moonlight".
Against the arid wasteland, the trees growing on either side of the banks form "a line of incongruous green demarcating the river like oil brushstrokes on a painting". The river enables the metropolis of Nekhrumet to thrive in such an unforgiving environment, acting as the vital artery for Aten's great desert jewel.
