Fort Malden is a historical location on Earth that briefly appears in a flashback to Trey's (Tarathiel's) past life. During the War of 1812, Trey served as an American soldier marching toward the fort. The text notes that "General Hull only had two thousand men, but he was sure the march to Fort Malden would be a total and complete success". The fort itself is never physically described; instead, it serves as the intended destination for the troops before Trey is cornered in the woods and shot dead by a fellow soldier over a matter of fifty cents.
